This is why it makes sense for both sides of the ball to make a move for each other when it’s all said and done.

The Philadelphia 76ers and Ben Simmons are at a standstill in the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia will be able to deal their unhappy star before the trade deadline, but only for a respectable return based on an All-Star-caliber player. Someone like… Bradley Beal, perhaps?
Beal and the Washington Wizards are fighting to remain in the postseason race in D.C. With the great guard potentially becoming a free agency at the conclusion of the season, the Wizards may want to call the 76ers and explore a blockbuster deal. This is a transaction that would be a great win for both parties.

The Sixers would want to move on from the turmoil now that Simmons has been suspended for the whole season. Philly, on the other hand, isn’t about to dump Simmons for nothing. It’s also not willing to throw Simmons in with a bunch of other guys in order to get someone like Beal.
According to The Athletic’s David Aldridge and Josh Robbins, Beal is on the short list of players Philly would accept in a Simmons trade. The Sixers, on the other hand, will not sign second-year guard Tyrese Maxey or third-year forward Matisse Thybulle to complement Simmons.
Aldridge and Robbins both point out that Washington has made no public hint that it is interested in trading Beal before the deadline. In fact, the Wizards might be looking to bolster their roster by bringing in players like Indiana Pacers forward Domantas Sabonis. However, given the team’s present position in the standings, Washington must at least consider whether Beal would reject his $36.4 million player option and depart D.C. this summer.

While The Athletic’s article offered no evidence that a deal was close to being finalized, it would be a huge victory for both the 76ers and the Wizards if something could be done before February 10.
For a team that is now just a half-game out of first place in the Eastern Conference, turning Simmons into Beal would be a game-changing move. Beal, who scored 31.3 points per game last season, is a strong shooter who can help take some of the offensive pressure off MVP contender Joel Embiid. Even if the Sixers had to give up a valuable defender like Thybulle in addition to Simmons, adding Beal would make them even more dangerous in the playoffs.
The decision would also put an end to the long-running Simmons saga. The point guard’s absence has thrown a pall over Philadelphia’s season, which is only just beginning to turn around owing to Embiid’s valiant efforts. If the 76ers are able to move on from Simmons for good, the team will be able to focus on the future.
So, how would this assist the Wizards? Simmons, for one, is a pass-first playmaker and outstanding defender who has the potential to improve all of Washington’s younger players. Two, after this season, Simmons is under contract for another four years and $147 million. While that doesn’t seem promising, The Athletic reports that if Beal re-signs with Washington, he will be eligible for a supermax deal for $246 million over five years.
The Wizards made the mistake of signing John Wall to a multi-year contract, which forced them to trade him for Russell Westbrook. Do they want to be compelled to build around Beal, a 28-year-old whose valiant efforts have yielded three series triumphs in the last three years but none since 2017?
The Sixers would get an Embiid-Beal duo capable of winning a championship, while the Wizards would save a lot of money and alter the course of their franchise by keeping Simmons on the books. This is what you call a win-win situation.

Even in a world where superstars are always on the move, a deal between the Wizards and the 76ers before the trade deadline would be shocking. However, don’t rule out relocating this summer.
The Wizards will be interested to see which way Beal is leaning, given his contract situation. Beal, on the other hand, will wait to see how the remainder of the season unfolds before making a choice. In terms of the Sixers, they’d want to make sure Beal is at least exercising his player option, giving them a full year of his services before his deal officially expires.
Furthermore, it appears unlikely that Simmons will reconsider his decision to play for Philadelphia. However, retaining him for the next several months would allow the two parties time to iron out their differences in the future. The 76ers can then grant him his wish if the offseason arrives and he still wants out.
A Simmons-Beal trade makes a lot of sense for everyone involved, whether it happens in the next few days or next summer.
