The new trend of blockchain-based games is a risky one for the traditional gaming industry, as players can now earn crypto or NFTs in-game. Steam’s decision to ban these games from their platform could be an effort by them to cope with the popularity of these types of titles and create a safer environment for gamers.
The “gods unchained” is a blockchain game that gives cryptocurrencies or NFTs to players. Steam has banned the game because it’s giving away too much in-game currency.

Games that use blockchain technology to facilitate the trading of NFTs or cryptocurrencies will no longer be permitted on Steam according to a recent government ruling.
In a nutshell, NFTs are one-of-a-kind digital receipts (stored on a blockchain, a form of irreversible ledger database) that are usually linked to ownership of a jpeg file or other digital material.
These are usually bought using cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, as well as blockchain transactions, which may be exchanged for US dollars or other national currencies.
NFTs and crypto are no longer supported by Valve.
Valve says distributors should not distribute blockchain-based apps that issue or enable the trade of cryptocurrencies or NFTs, according to a new restriction on the steam partner login page.
The firm hasn’t revealed why it’s banning the above-mentioned from Steam, but it doesn’t seem to be related to recent blockchain-related scandals or controversies:
NFTs have been used to defraud individuals out of millions of dollars in return for a JPG receipt, and it has resulted in the theft of graphics created for other games.
Not to mention the fact that the environmental impact of blockchain ledgers is still a point of contention.
A series of recent tweets from SpacePirate, the creator of Age of Rust, give some further information on the problem.
NFTs are assigned to unique goods and equip, as well as objectives, throughout the game. He said that Steam has informed the corporation that all blockchain-based projects, including Age of Rust, will be removed.
Furthermore, according to SpacePirate, Steam’s prohibition on NFTs and cryptocurrencies is an extension of the company’s overall prohibition on things with real-world monetary worth.
Community: We just got word that @Steam is removing *all blockchain games* from their platform, including Age of Rust, since NFTs have value. We’ve had nice behind-the-scenes contact and have been honest with Steam. #NFT 1/4 pic.twitter.com/W4pR3Xl63q #blockchaingames

Valve has yet to provide a statement clarifying their reasoning. Satoshis Titles’ CEO said on September 30 that his blockchain-based game Light Nite had been removed off Steam, but didn’t explain on why, other than to declare that Steam will no longer be selling crypto or NFTs games.
One widespread theory is that the major cause is the legal issues the firm had in 2016 as a result of their failure to prevent gambling on CS:GO skins.
Valve banned seven players at the time for purposefully losing a match in order to earn CS:GO skins valued thousands of dollars.
