NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – The Tennessee Titans are assisting after floodwaters in Waverly, Tennessee, severely destroyed the town, including the local high school’s football facilities.
In late August, record-breaking flash floods caused by 17 inches of rain in 24 hours ravaged four counties in Middle Tennessee, causing extensive devastation. Waverly, with a population of 4,500 people and a location 90 miles west of Nashville, was one of the worst affected communities.
The Titans wanted to do more than simply provide money. So they arranged for football helmets, girdles, jerseys, trousers, equipment bags, athletic training and medical supplies, and a washer and dryer to be sent to the Waverly Central High School Tigers.
The Titans’ assistance is “very essential,” according to Waverly coach Randy Boldin. “Especially when it comes to a professional football squad assisting a small-town football club. That is very motivating. It simply goes to show that you’re constantly trying to assist and give back, no matter what level you’re at.”

The flash floods, according to Boldin, dumped four to five feet of water into their fieldhouse in minutes.
The Titans also arranged for the Tigers to face White House High School at Nissan Stadium on Thursday.
Titans senior manager for football outreach Josh Corey stated, “We wanted to bring these youngsters back on the field under the lights.” “The epidemic has already taken its toll on these children. Last year, they missed games, and this year, they’ll be without a facility for the whole year. There were going to be no home games for these youngsters.”
Corey said that they wanted to put the students in the spotlight and perform the different things that high schools do during football games throughout the year. Prior to the game, Senior Night will recognize the senior band members and football players. At halftime, there will be a homecoming court.
The setting will be identical to that of a Titans game at Nissan Stadium. Both teams’ starting lineups will be shown on the big screen when they emerge from their respective tunnels on the video boards. The video boards will also provide an instant replay.
The Titans’ radio team will broadcast the game as “Tigers’ Radio” on a local radio station.
Titans president/CEO Burke Nihill made a $50,000 contribution to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Disaster Relief Fund at their “Kickoff Luncheon” last month. The floods claimed the lives of at least 22 individuals.
Of August, Titans coach Mike Vrabel stated, “I just want to let everyone know how much compassion, thoughts, and worries we have for the folks in Waverly.” “They’ve lost family members as well as their houses. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by the floods, including our team and organization.”
