Warframe is a free-to-play title by Digital Extremes that blends elements of an MMORPG and a first person shooter. The game has players take on the role of a Tenno, a race of ancient warriors that can control a vast arsenal of weapons and abilities. Players can choose to play the game alone or team up with friends, and they can customize their characters through a system called “Mods”.

Every gamer is bound to run into complaints about Warframe sooner or later. The game has a reputation for being the same as it always has been, but it’s far from being outdated. Its newest update, The War Within, adds a significant amount of new content, and even the older players can experience quite a few new things from this update.

10 – Paladins: Kingdom Champion – 2016

Paladins is a free-to-play game in both first and third person view, a great way to scratch the Warframe itch. Combining elements of science fiction, high fantasy and medieval fantasy, this game has broad appeal and is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch.

Since this is a cooperative game, teamwork, coordination, knowledge of characters and strategy will come in handy. You play as one of four character types – called champions – including support, frontline, damage and flank.

The game focuses on the conflict between the two main factions, the Paladins and the Magistrates, and the lesser factions of the Abyss, the Thousand Hands and the Pyres.

Although there are forty champions, only five are available to new players. You can buy a champion for in-game currency or use one of the four that become available every two weeks.

9 – Warface – 2013

Warface, another free-to-play game, is a first-person shooter often overlooked by the creators of Far Cry. In this intense combat game, you can choose the role of an archer, an engineer, a sniper or a medic. Of course, each character type has its own strengths and weaknesses. The strengths are pretty obvious.

As a medic you can give first aid to fallen allies. Snipers are experts at taking out enemies at long range. Shooters get extra ammo and engineers can repair and even rebuild armor after it has been damaged by enemy fire.

You can engage in PvP (player vs. player) or PvE (player vs. environment) battles against other players or the game itself. Warface Dollars, Experience Points and Vendor Points are the official currencies of the game. These are earned throughout the game and can be used to obtain weapons and armor, level up your character or advance faster.

8 – Anthem – 2019

Just released and already very popular, Anthem is an online role-playing game that takes you into an open world with a familiar third-person perspective.

While some reviewers found weakness in the somewhat repetitive nature of the game, they were also full of praise for the combat, flight controls, and impressive graphics. They find themselves on a nameless planet, littered with advanced but abandoned technology.

These items are called relics and can wreak havoc on the landscape, change the weather and climate, mutate animals, spawn monsters, and have a host of other mischievous effects.

You play as a freelancer whose first mission – to enter the Heart of Fury and disable the cenotaph – turns out to be a little more complicated than expected.

7 – Destiny 1 and 2 – 2014 and 2017

The Destiny franchise is another popular game that has been praised by players and critics alike. No one will like everything – especially the critics – but these games have consistently received positive reviews and have legions of devoted fans. For us, that means it’s a great game, and once you’ve tried Destiny, you’ll agree with me.

Described by its creators as a mythical sci-fi game, Destiny games are first-person shooters with a heavy sci-fi atmosphere. In a world where man has made great progress and colonized the solar system, a period of great prosperity is followed by a mysterious event known as the collapse.

Recovering from this catastrophic event is at the heart of Destiny’s gameplay.

As you can imagine, the possibilities are endless, and once you’ve played Destiny, you’ll understand why people play this game for hours.

6 – Dark Sector – 2008

Dark Sector is an older game, but in our opinion capable of captivating Warframe fans. It is set in a fictional Eastern European country called Lasria. You play a CIA agent – more of a mercenary – named Hayden Tenno. Nothing to do with Warframe, I promise! Hayden technically works as a janitor, cleaning up the messes that some companies make.

During a mission, his hand is infected by a strange virus called Technocyte. The Technocite is much more useful than the SARM. Hayden can use it to wield a triangular, boomerang-like weapon called the Glaive.

The game offers a lot of spy fun with backstabbing and double agents, and we recommend this game to anyone who likes spy action movies.

5 – Fortnite – 2017

The popular survival battle royale game Fortnite is one of those games that you have already played or at least know about. If you’re in the latter group, you probably know a lot of people who play this game, and their constant chatter makes you crazy or curious. Are you curious? That’s it! Read more.

Fortnite has three different game modes, each with its own hardcore following and each with different aspects of gameplay that appeal to different players. These are Save the World, Battle Royale and Creative. Creative finds players in a truly massive open world where they can create almost anything they want. Save the World is a PvE game in which four players fight together to survive and generally save the world.

As you’d expect, Battle Royale pits you against other players in one of the best mass market fighting games we’ve ever seen.

4 – Overwatch – 2016

If you’re tired of games that sacrifice gameplay for art (and vice versa), you’ll fall in love with Overwatch. This game is visually stunning, plays like a dream, and has found great popularity by doing something quite remarkable. Many iconic darling games don’t interest ordinary gamers, simply because they don’t have the time to invest in a really good video game.

Hey, we understand – we’re busy too. This leads to an elitist attitude, and unfortunately some truly epic games are overlooked simply because, in all honesty, they are made for people with a lot of free time. This 6v6 multiplayer mode features charming and sinister anime characters, objective-based gameplay, and most importantly, the ability to progress and play like a pro without spending hours that most of us just don’t have.

If you like cooperative battles, we highly recommend giving this game a try. It didn’t win the IGN Game of the Year award for nothing!

3 – Path of Exile – 2013

Path of Exile has gained more and more fans since its inception. If you’ve never tried the game, I think you’ll like it – especially since the many additions released since 2013 have only made the game better.

This free role-playing game starts with you as a pathetic survivor of a shipwreck, washed up with nothing. Then, if you’re lucky, you’ll progress and eventually be able to kill gods, jump into universes, plunder, and generally have fun.

If you like games with a story, you’ll be very happy with PoE. The amount of weirdness in this game is one of its greatest strengths – where else can you build a monster zoo? The number of rounds is also a plus for us, but keep in mind: There are many unexpected twists.

While this may put off some players who prefer a less serious approach, we think it’s part of what makes this game great. If you like games that you can sink your teeth into, you’ll probably agree with us.

2 – League of Legends – 2009

Since its release, LoL has become so popular that it has literally become a legend of its time. Inspired by another big hit, the Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III, this multiplayer online battle arena game became popular even before it was released.

There are no boring or stale matches here – every match is a serious test of at least one skill, and the game is designed so that you feel an emotional pull every time.

The game is played in a 5 against 5 format, with each match lasting between twenty and fifty minutes. The number of one hundred and forty playable characters continues to grow, and we are sure that new characters will be added very soon. Before you get hooked, remember that it takes years to master and unlock all the characters.

Again, for those who want to dive deep into something. If you’re looking for your next true obsession, we just found it.

1 – War Thunder (2016)

We’re as surprised as you that a free-to-play game is in first place, but we think a lot of players missed out. That’s a shame, because this military MMO game is a lot of fun and completely cross-platform, so your friends playing on PlayStation 4 won’t have to deal with lag or weird stuff when they play with you on PC.

There are over 1000 vehicles in the game, from tanks, helicopters and warships to incredibly detailed aircraft and just about everything in between.

Team up with friends or friendly strangers and engage in super-realistic battles in every imaginable environment. A great game to play with friends, but more than interesting on its own, it’s a hidden gem that shouldn’t be overlooked.
