Every year, the world watches as the temperature rises. And you know what? The heat isn’t just on the ground—it’s up in the air, too. And that’s where Fire Stick comes in. FireStick works with your smartphone, and can be used as a remote control for any game or app, whether it’s playing a game on your phone or chatting in a chat room, Fire Stick can handle it. And, surprisingly, FireStick doesn’t need a Wi-Fi connection. All you need is a smartphone and a Fire Stick in your pocket.
Firestick is a brand new media streaming device that you can use to watch TV, movies, and even listen to music with. Firestick is also one of the best ways to watch Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and more. When you can’t find something on Hulu or Netflix, or if you want to watch a podcast on your TV, or if you want to listen to music, Firestick is the quickest and easiest way of doing this.
FireStick is a newer and more modern way of connecting your smartphone to your television, and it’s designed to be more convenient than the current methods of USB, HDMI, or MHL. It’s also a bit more advanced than other methods, since it uses Wi-Fi to transmit the signal, rather than relying on a physical connection.
In this article we explain what the FireStick is and how it works. This article also applies to the Amazon FireStick 4K, Fire TV Cube and Fire TV Stick Lite.If you’re looking for a new streaming device, you’ve probably thought of a few popular ones. Amazon FireStick, Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast, and Android TV boxes are the most likely options to choose from.

After using all of these devices for quite some time, I can confidently say that the Amazon FireStick is one of the best.
This guide is intended to give you an overview of the Fire TV Stick and how it works to help you make your choice.
If you have already purchased a FireStick, this guide will certainly help you.
What is an Amazon FireStick?
The FireStick is a streaming device that plugs into your TV and lets you stream content from the Internet. The FireStick is officially called Amazon Fire TV Stick. However, it is better known as the simple FireStick.
The FireStick is an Android-based device. Unlike most Android devices, however, the FireStick does not support Google Play services. It uses a modified Android operating system and supports the Amazon Store.
The FireStick lets you stream movies, TV shows, live streaming and just about anything else you can think of. You can download dozens of apps from the Amazon Store, including popular ones like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.
Additionally, the FireStick allows you to download third-party apps that are not available on the Amazon Store.
What are the different Fire TV devices?
Amazon currently sells the following five devices:
Device | Price |
FireStick 2. Generation | $39.99 |
FireStick 4K | $49.99 |
Fire TV Cube | $119.99 |
FireStick 3. Generation | $39.99 |
Fire TV Stick Lite | $29.99 |
Interesting reading: FireStick vs FireStick 4K vs Fire TV Cube.
All these devices are basically the same. However, there are some important differences depending on your preferences.
Personally, I think the FireStick 4K is the most viable option at this point.
What does the FireStick do?
In short, these are some of the things the FireStick can do for you:
- Video streaming (films, series, etc.)
- Continuous music
- Board games
- Get answers and information with Alexa (voice-controlled artificial intelligence)
The Amazon Fire TV Stick is primarily a device for streaming video. The ability to effortlessly bring entertainment into your home is what has made it so popular.
You can get streaming apps from the Amazon Store or download third-party apps (see later in this guide).
You can get Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and just about anything else you want.
You can also download and play games on the FireStick. However, some games require the Amazon Fire TV game controller. It is available separately on Amazon. To be fair, the FireStick isn’t really known for its gaming capabilities.
Alexa, the voice-activated artificial intelligence, is one of the most attractive features of the FireStick and Fire TV. Alexa will do many things for you. Just press the microphone button on your remote and ask Alexa to open apps, give you the weather forecast, find sushi restaurants nearby, or even tell you a joke.
If you use the Fire TV Cube, Alexa can even control your smart devices and appliances.
How does the FireStick work?
The FireStick is a simple streaming device. I’ve used almost every streaming device including Roku, Chromecast, Android TV boxes. I can say with certainty that it has the most user-friendly interface. It’s too easy to use.
Let’s see how the FireStick works.
Getting started with the FireStick
Once you have taken the FireStick out of the box, there are a few things you need to do:
- Insert the batteries into the remote control
- Connect the FireStick to the HDMI port on your TV. You can also use the HDMI extension cable supplied with the unit.
- Turn on your TV and select the HDMI port to which you connected the FireStick as the source.
- Connecting the FireStick to a power source
- Wait until the FireStick turns on
FireStickInitial Configuration
If you are using the FireStick for the first time after taking it out of the box, you need to set it up.
The configuration process is simple. For full instructions, please refer to our detailed manual: To set up an Amazon FireStick.
During configuration, you must perform the following actions:
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network: Make sure you have a Wi-Fi connection and that it is within range of the FireStick.
- Sign in with your Amazon account: Your FireStick must be linked to your Amazon account. You can’t install it without it. If you don’t already have an Amazon account, create one for free on the Amazon web portal. If you have an Amazon account with a Prime subscription, I recommend logging in with the same account. Here you will find an extensive collection of Prime content that is not to be missed. If you purchased the FireStick through Amazon, the device is already connected to your Amazon account if you selected the Connect to my Amazon account option when you signed in to simplify setup.
Get your favorite apps and channels from the Amazon Store
The Amazon FireStick supports hundreds of applications and channels. There are two ways to download it from the Amazon App Store.
If you are looking for something specific, select Search > Search from the FireStick home screen (the center menu bar).
Now enter the name of the application you want and follow the on-screen instructions to download it from the store.
OR
There is another way to get apps and channels from the Amazon Store. You can browse the whole list and select the files you want to download.
From the FireStick home screen, select Search > Appstore.
Here you will find 4 options to choose from: All your applications, headlines, games, and all categories.
Under Featured you’ll find popular apps and channels recommended by Amazon.
I usually choose All Categories to explore all options per category.
You’ll find every category you can imagine, including movies and TV, news, music and audio, business, communications, and more.
When you click on a category, a list of associated channels is displayed. For example, when I click on movies and TV, I see this:
This is how you get your favorite apps and channels from the Amazon Store.

How the Firestick works for free streaming
This is the best part of Firestick that makes it so popular with cable TV users. The device can stream unlimited free content including movies, programs, documentaries, sports, etc.
Jailbreak FireStick
If you want to unlock the true potential of the FireStick or Fire TV, jailbreaking is the way to go. After the jailbreak, you will have access to a lot of free content. Whether you like movies, TV shows or live TV, you’ll have it all.
The jailbreak is easy, and our step-by-step guide makes it even easier.

Unlocking may seem a bit complicated, but trust me, it’s not. It’s called a jailbreak because intermediaries have made the term popular. This process installs some third-party applications that allow you to stream content for free. Here are some quick facts:
- Unlocking will NOT damage your device
- Piracy does not invalidate the warranty
- The jailbreak requires NO technical knowledge
Installing a third-party APK
While the jailbreak process shows the installation of the most popular apps, there are many more third-party APKs that you can install on your device.
